SUMMARY:From Model to Impact: Battery Summer School
DESCRIPTION:Date: 20-22 May 2026 \nPlace: Linz Center of Mechatronics\, Science Park 1 \nRegister until 13.05.2026: here ->  Summer School Application \n\n\nAre you curious about battery technologies and how models can help turn ideas into real-world impact? Do you want to understand electro-thermal battery modelling\, gain hands-on experience\, and explore how technical concepts can grow into collaborative innovation projects? Yes? So join our Battery Summer School: From Model to Impact and discover how fundamentals\, modelling\, systems thinking\, and European collaboration come together in the field of battery development. \n\nWhy Attend?\nBattery technologies are at the heart of the energy transition and play a key role in new mobility as well as in stationary storage systems. To develop efficient\, reliable\, and innovative battery solutions\, it is essential to understand not only the technological fundamentals but also the methods and tools that support modelling\, optimization\, and system-level design. This summer school is designed to provide participants with a solid introduction to battery technologies while offering practical insights into the pathway from models to industrial and collaborative impact. \nWhat to Expect?\nThe program will introduce you to the fundamentals of battery technologies and provide insight into electro-thermal battery modelling using network models. The theoretical sessions are complemented by practical hands-on work with Open Modelica and the optimization platform SyMSpace\, enabling you to directly apply the concepts you learn. Examples from industry will offer valuable perspectives beyond the classroom. \n\n\nIn addition\, the summer school will present Systems Engineering methods for coping with complex systems such as battery modules. Since bringing ideas to life often requires the right partners and suitable funding opportunities\, the program also includes a dedicated session on how to transform concepts into collaboration opportunities within Horizon Europe projects. \n\n\nTo further encourage creativity\, teamwork\, and initiative\, the program is rounded off by a Mechaton\, where participants are invited to actively develop their ideas in an interactive setting. A social program on the first evening will provide an excellent opportunity to get to know the other participants\, exchange ideas\, and build connections in an inspiring and international environment. \nPROGRAMME \n\nWho Should Attend?\nThis summer school is ideal for: \n\nBSc\, MSc\, or PhD students from engineering and life sciences\, researchers\, and industry professionals interested in battery technologies and modelling.\nEngineers\, developers\, and innovators interested in exploring Systems Engineering approaches and learning how ideas can be developed into collaborative opportunities within Horizon Europe projects.\n\nEmbark on an inspiring learning journey that connects battery fundamentals\, modelling\, systems thinking\, innovation\, and people. Exchange ideas with experts and peers\, gain practical experience in hands-on sessions\, and discover how technical knowledge can be translated into real applications\, collaborations\, and future opportunities in the battery sector. \nDon’t Miss Out!  \nRegister now for the  Summer School (deadline: 13.05.2026) \nWe will host only a restricted number of applicants to make sure that the summer school will be fruitful for all participants\, allowing for insightful discussion and knowledge sharing among participants. \nA certificate will be issued at the end of the workshop for participants meeting 100% attendance\, specifying the total hours completed. This certificate may be submitted to your institution for consideration toward ECTS credits.  \nTuition: FREE of charge \nAfter acceptance of your application\, you will receive an email with more information. \nCoffee breaks and lunches are provided. Please note the accommodation and transportation are not included. \nACCOMMODATION \nAccommodation can be booked at Sommerhaus Hotel Linz\, which is located close to Linz Center of Mechatronics and the campus of Johannes Kepler University. You are also welcome to find alternative accommodation if preferred. \nORGANIZERS \nPaula Reimer and Bernd Winkler from Linz Center of Mechatronics GmbH\, in collaboration with the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava\, the University of Twente\,and ADDSEN\, as part of the FreeTwinEV project. \nWe are looking forward to seeing you in Linz. Register until 13.05.2026: here ->  Summer School Application \nIf you have any questions\, please contact us via  battery.summerschool@lcm.at \nPhoto credits: LCM
