FreeTwinEV

The FreeTwinEV project aims to strengthen the research capabilities of the Slovak University of Technology (STU) in the field of Digital Twinning for advanced battery management systems.

FreeTwinEV Consortium Meets in Linz: Two Years In, One Year to Go

On 19 May 2026, the partners of the FreeTwinEV consortium gathered in Linz, Austria, for an in-person meeting that marked an important milestone in the life of the project: the completion of its second year and the official start of its final stretch.

Taking Stock After Two Years

The Linz meeting brought together representatives from all four consortium partners: the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (STU), the University of Twente, the Linz Center of Mechatronics (LCM), and ADDSEN, for a day of reflection, review, and planning.

Two years into the project, the progress made by the consortium is tangible. The partnership has advanced on multiple fronts: battery models have been developed and validated against real measurements, scientific publications have been produced, collaborative tools and methodologies have been refined, and the network of researchers involved has continued to grow. The Battery Summer School held the very next day, attended by participants from across the partner institutions, was itself a testimony to how far the collaboration has come.

The meeting provided an opportunity for each partner to present updates on their work packages, discuss results achieved so far, and align on the priorities for the final year of the project.

Looking Ahead to the Final Year

With one year remaining, the consortium’s focus now turns to consolidation and impact. The final phase of FreeTwinEV will concentrate on bringing together the outputs developed throughout the project, digital twin models, experimental data, simulation workflows, and training materials, into a coherent and lasting contribution to the field of battery management systems for electric vehicles.

The goal that has guided FreeTwinEV from the start remains unchanged: to establish STU as a leading research hub in digital twinning for battery systems in Central and Eastern Europe, and to create a durable partnership with the University of Twente, LCM, and ADDSEN that outlasts the project itself.

The Linz meeting was a reminder of what has already been achieved , and a shared commitment to making the final year count.
